MAINTENANCE - meaning of the term

Maintenance is a procedure that tries to keep a state or ability the same. Maintenance as such has its greatest application in technical sciences, where there is a whole field dealing with the theory of maintenance.

Technical maintenance involves the procedure of inspecting, repairing or improving a device or accompanying built-in equipment, which eliminates a malfunction, improves the existing condition or simply extends the working life. Maintenance theory is based on two conflicting requirements:

- Maintenance costs must be as low as possible,
- The device must work as reliably as possible

Since it is impossible to reconcile these two requirements, the whole theory of maintenance is based on a compromise, that is, on an attempt to achieve the highest possible security at the lowest possible cost. An important role is played by the laws and rules that must be observed when operating certain devices, which impose minimum standards that must be met for certain branches of technology.

DN&T Investing group d.o.o. from the very beginning, he tries to find the best compromise, ie. to offer the best solution to reduce maintenance costs, while the level of correctness of devices and equipment remains in a satisfactory mode so that all systems function flawlessly. There are two strategies in maintenance and they are:

Corrective maintenance is maintenance in which the device is maintained only after a breakdown or stoppage has occurred. This method of maintenance is the most prevalent despite the whole series of negative properties that it brings with it.

Preventive maintenance is maintenance during which the device is maintained before a failure occurs. This method covers the negative properties of corrective maintenance, but brings with it some other negative properties. Preventive maintenance can be done in several ways. It can be performed as planned maintenance, which is performed at set time intervals (English: Time Based Maintenance) or based on the number of kilometers traveled, based on the number of working hours, after a certain number of performed work operations, etc.; or as predictive maintenance (maintenance by condition) in which maintenance activities are carried out based on the condition of parts and components.
